Frequently asked questions

Where and when do you meet for practice?

We meet Monday - Friday at 4:10 PM at the Cal Poly Track. You’ll find us at the 50m mark at the track or at the adjacent turf sports field. Look for the large group of runners and listen for “4:10 two laps!”

I don’t like racing. Can I still join?

Yes! Many of our members are casual runners who enjoy the social aspect of Distance Club more than the competitive aspect. Racing is completely optional. Feel free to come to practice as much or as little as you’d like.

Are there tryouts?

Nope! All Cal Poly Students are welcome to join CPDC, regardless of running experience or ability. We welcome the most casual to the most competitive runners. Whatever your running goals are, there’s a group for you within CPDC.

Is there a CPDC coach?

Yes! Refer to the homepage of our website to learn more about our coach, Mando. He usually is at practice Tuesday and Friday.

What days do you hold workouts?

Like many running teams, we stagger our workouts throughout the week. Typically we hold team workouts (i.e. tempos, track intervals, fartleks) on Tuesday and Friday.

How many racing opportunities are offered throughout the year?

In the Fall, CPDC attends about 3-5 Cross Country meets followed by NIRCA XC National Championships (subject to qualification). In the Spring, CPDC attends about 7-10 track meets.
